KATHLEEN VAN DER MERWE
I am a South African born mother of three beautiful teenagers and wife to an incredible husband, who is my rock and best friend. We live in beautiful British Columbia, Canada and enjoy water skiing on our local lakes in the Summer and snow skiing during the Winter. I love horses and find these creatures healing to be around.
Deep within my core, I love seeing people reach their goals and reach their full potential! I am passionate about seeing people grow and develop and achieve what they have set out to do. Few things bring me joy like seeing a child work hard at something until they get it right, or seeing a friend persevere through hard times and witness them making it through on the other side, stronger and at peace. Life is full of these milestones all the way and it is incredibly fulfilling to witness the tenacious efforts of another making it to the final goal. My heart rejoices at these successes, no matter how seemingly small. It could be a best time at a swimming meet or five years of study to obtain a designation. We have so much capacity. I love to see our potential released.
Our family relocated from South Africa to British Columbia, Canada in the midst of the Covid pandemic, which meant we were effectively starting over from scratch in a foreign country and already halfway through our formal working career.
Despite being humbled and immensely grateful for the opportunity to live, work and play in this beautiful part of the world, it did not negate that leaving our birth country, family and friends was one of the hardest journeys we have embarked on as a family. (I am acutely aware, that so many others endure far more hardship and pain during this life and never have an alternative. For the opportunity, we are truly grateful).
It very quickly became apparent, that whilst we both were employed, we were hamstrung in our ability to catch up on twenty years’ worth of retirement savings and provide for three teenagers' tertiary education. But even more so, there was a growing sense of restlessness within my soul at being tied to a job that consumed by time and my emotions yet could not afford me what my heart and soul yearned for - time to do those things that really made my heart soar and the financial freedom to travel back to see our family and friends in South Africa. I started feeling a sense of panic set in. I felt stuck, with no means to explore beyond the area we lived in and concerned for our future along with a slow realization that I had giftings and talents that were going undeveloped.
That was when I decided I had to make it happen. I needed to find a way to earn multiple sources of income and carve out the future that we were created for. A life where we could be creative, express our giftings and talents and create something of our own which has meaning and purpose. This was when I came across an advertisement for Launch You. Finding a resource to an ethical online business education was a timely godsend and has taken me on a journey of enriched learning and growth.
